May 24, 2018-Leaving Moorea, flight to Bora Bora, IC Le Moana, Dinner at Matira Beach

Our last breakfast here.  I'm going to miss Moorea.  We've had such a great time.  The staff at the IC Moorea are the best.  Always smiling, saying hello, bending over backwards to make your stay here perfect.  Breakfast is pretty much the same.  I've had omelets or eggs over easy and Richard gravitates to the vegetables.  This morning I have an one egg omelet with tomatoes and cheese, an apple turnover, tropical fruit juice.  Richard has his cereal, vegetables, tomato and pineapple juice, coffee.    Forgot to take pictures!!  Check out is fast with only having to pay city tax each night of 300 XPF and the bill from the Beach Bar for dinner last night.  Total is 7400 XPF/$72.77.

Our departure to the airport is scheduled for 9:05 AM.  We arrive with our luggage early.  While waiting in the lobby I take some last minute pictures.  Robert Wan store.  The schedule of the week events for the hotel.  Our ride is here.  We pass some stores in Maharepa which we never got to explore.  We arrive at the airport around 9:30 AM.  Our Air Tahiti flight VT294 is scheduled to depart at 11:05 AM.  Check in goes better than expected.  Didn't want to see Richard's diving certification or his dive gear to justify the extra 11 pounds checked weight he gets.  I'm concerned about our carry ons.  I think they may be over the 11 pound per person limit.  OMG!  Lucky!!  They don't weigh our carry ons.  While waiting to board I buy some postcards and a fridge magnet.  Richard is adamant that I not buy any souvenirs until we get to Tahiti and don't have to worry about weight and Air Tahiti.  I really wish I could have bought a few more things.  Especially from the store at the Juice Factory.  We are in luck again as we get to sit in the last row on the left that the flight attendant directed me to-for the view she says.  This is a short flight but we are still served a drink of pineapple juice.  Refreshing.  There are lots of clouds in the sky so views are nice but would have been better with no clouds.  Needless to say first sight of Bora Bora with the main island and the surrounding motus, that color of the lagoon-breathtaking.

Upon arriving at the Bora Bora airport there are several booths for each of the hotels-St. Regis, Four Seasons, Intercontinental.  We each get another flower lei and are given tags for our luggage.  We get on a boat that is just for the IC.  We drop off those for the IC Thalasso first.  Then we get to the IC Le Moana which is located on the main island.  Greeted at the dock with music.  In the lobby/reception area we are given cold towels and a welcome drink.  Have to fill out paperwork of course.  Personal welcome from the manager-Laurence.  She is very nice.  Alexander from reception will take us on a short tour of the property showing us the restaurants, the concierge office, the pool.  Then he takes us to our over water bungalow #3.  I'm happy because we won't have far to walk to get to breakfast, the beach, the pool........

Our OW bungalow #3

We do have a nice view of Mount Otemanu.  Maybe not as nice as seen from the motus but it suits me fine.  Our bungalow is large.  Living room area has a desk, TV, supplies for making coffee (nespresso machine) or tea.  Comfy couch and a coffee table.  The glass top slides open to the water below.  How cool is that!  There's a bag of coconut for us.  In the bedroom area there are more gifts.  A T shirt that has the resort name on it, a pareo, a small tote bag.  King bed.  Pillow menu.  Lots of space and a sliding door that can close off the bedroom from the living room.  There's also another TV.  Then the bathroom. Sliding door here to close off from the bedroom.   It's huge.  Make up seating area. Hair dryer.  Nice toiletries.  Big fluffy pure white towels.  Deep soaking tub.  Separate shower.  The toilet also has a door that can close it off to the rest of the bathroom.  Large closet with drawers for clothes.  Iron and Ironing board.  Safe.  Through sliding doors off the living room area is a 2 tier deck.  On the top we have 2 cushioned loungers, a table and chairs.  Stairs to bottom deck which has stairs into the water.  Outdoor shower.  The water around the bungalow is only about 4' deep.  We love our accommodations.  Knock on the door.  A small bottle of French champagne to celebrate our anniversary!  Totally nice.  We finish the bottle of bubbly.  It was good and I'm not a huge fan of champagne.  We unpack and decide to check out the beach and the pool.

To us for surviving 50 years!

Can't stop looking

The pool is small but big enough.  It is, however, cold.  Today the beach is not calm, but a bit wavy.  We head to see the concierge.  I want to inquire about if we can have dinner one night at Lagoon located at the St. Regis on one of the motus.  She tells us we can but it will cost us.  Taxi and boat-around $300+.  That's before we even get to the restaurant!  I don't know if I want to spend that much money just for a dinner I may or may not like.  She does make reservations for us for tonight.  Pick up is 6:30 PM for the Matira Beach Restaurant.

Dinner-Matira Beach.  Picked up on time with 2 other couples.  That's why they have set pick up times.  This place is good if you like sushi and if you plan ahead can have hibachi/teppenyaki.  Chef needs time to prepare for that so no hibachi for us.  😞  Tables are set up nicely with pretty centerpieces.  For drinks we decide to just have water.  I've been enjoying the cocktails but I need a break.  Richard selects the vegetarian/chef's choice and I go for the red tuna.  The vegetarian meal has the most delicious brown rice I've ever tasted,  Mixed peppers, tomato, broccoli, a potato dish, tempura battered onion rings.  He's very happy with his choice.  My entree comes with white rice and sauces on the side-one is wasabi.  Richard is a sweetheart and gives me his brown rice that I love and takes my white rice.  I give him some of my tuna and he agrees it's delicious.  My tuna melts in your mouth and the wasabi sauce is not as spicy as I thought it would be.  A lovely meal for our first night in Bora Bora.  Credit card accepted.  Cost without tip  5600 XPF/$59.99.  Ride back to resort was just us.  Downloaded some pictures.  Another early night which is getting to be our regular routine.  I have scheduled diving for Richard tomorrow so he gets all his gear ready.
