May 31, 2018-Leaving Bora Bora, flight to Papeete/Tahiti, IC Tahiti, dinner at Te Tiare

Today will be our last breakfast here as we are heading to Tahiti.  Richard gets his vegetables, pork and beans, and cauliflower since there's no broccoli.  I get my egg over easy, fruit, toast, and a pancake.  I have half a cup of coffee.  I am so used to our Costa Rican coffee that we've been drinking since 2009.  I just can't wrap my head around any other coffee than the kind we get from Cafe Britt, Costa Rica.  Richard goes back for a bacon sandwich.  We explore the part of the property we haven't been to yet which is a lesser amount of OW bungalows and some beach front bungalows.  The flowers, trees-very nice landscaping.  We run into Laurence and she gives me her card so I can send her pictures from the outrigger canoe race.  Back to the bungalow.  Fed rest of fish food to the fish through the floor opening.  Almost finished that bottle of rum but not taking it.  Finished packing.  We are almost 10 pounds over checked allowable weight.  Check out is fine.  Only thing unexpected was that we have to pay a city tax again.  This time it's 400 XPF per night so total of 2800 XPF.  Put some coins into box at reception for helping the coral nursery that the resort is developing.  I see what appears to be a bride walking the grounds nearby.  I say goodbye to Carol who has cooked me perfect eggs over easy every time.  Our dock pick up time to go to the airport is 9:50 AM.  Laurence and a guy playing the ukulele are there to send us off.  Sad to leave.

Goodbye!

The boat is right on time for us and a few other couples.  We stop at IC Thalasso to pick up another couple.  We arrive at the Bora Bora Airport at 11:20.  Our Air Tahiti flight is VT294 departing at 12:25 PM.  I'm nervous about check in but not only are the carry ons not weighed the checked bags go through with no problem.  I asked about my missing dark blue wrap and the girl checks but it's not in the lost and found here.  Last time I had it was on Moorea at dinner on 5/23.  I had sent an e-mail to the resort and our room was checked but no wrap found.  I thought maybe I had left it at the Moorea Airport or on the flight but........  Again we're lucky as we get the seats last row on the right side of the plane.  Pretty views on this flight. We are served pineapple juice on this short flight.  We land Papeete/Tahiti 1:20 PM. Get our luggage, find the guy with a sign with our name on it and directed to a van Marama Tours.

Our transfer from the airport to IC Tahiti

Traffic is not bad and in a short time we are pulling in to the Intercontinental Tahiti.  We get a welcome drink.  Fill out paperwork.  Our room isn't ready yet.  At the concierge desk I get menus for the 2 restaurants here-Te Tiare and Le Lotus.  We never got to eat at Le Lotus but I've included pictures of the restaurant's menu for those who may be considering going there.  It's supposed to be very good.  The room we are taken to does not have the requested twin beds but it has a lovely view.  The porter calls reception.  We're told nothing available and that our agent had requested a king bed for us.  (Later checking e-mails to Tahiti.com agent Nate it's in writing that at this last hotel we had asked for 2 beds)  The next room is much further away from reception, the pool, breakfast buffet venue.  It has 2 double beds, a large soaker tub, but not much of a view.  Plus I'm told it will cost $210 extra as this is a higher category room.  Porter calls reception again and I'm starting to feel frustrated when all of a sudden the girl tells me they have the perfect room for us, same category so no extra $$ required.  The porter takes us to room #357 in building 5 which is very close to pool, breakfast, reception.  And it has 2 beds and a great view!  I give the porter a bit more of a tip because of all this moving around.  We unpack a little as we're only here for 3 nights.

Out at the pool by 4:15PM.  We cool off, walk around.  We stop to watch the fish at the Lagoonarium.  Read about the coral, etc.  It's interesting.  We will return for the fish feeding before we leave to go home.  We've decided to have dinner here at Te Tiare instead of going into Papeete as we are tired.  Original plan was to go into town and have dinner at Le Grillardin.  Made reservation with concierge for 7:00 PM.

Dinner-Te Tiare.  Our reservation is for 7:00 PM.  We are given a table in the front row right by the pools, stage.  Very pretty with lights on the trees.  We decide to just stick to water tonight.  The menu has everything from appetizers, mains to lighter fare like sandwiches, salads.  We have been eating so much rich food the past 2 weeks that I felt like I needed something lighter.  I see spaghetti bolognaise on the menu which I love.  I also really haven't had any "Italian" meals other than our pizza experiences.  I ask our server about the quantity and he assures me that it's a "small" portion.  Ok, that's what I order.  Richard settles on the Italian panini of tomato, mozzarella cheese, ham, pesto and basil.  It comes with a side and he chooses french fries.  My spaghetti comes to the table and OMG I keep eating away at it and it doesn't seem to get smaller.  It looks small on the plate but there is a depression where the food is so it looks smaller than what it actually is!  Richard ends up helping me out.  I must say the pasta was cooked perfectly for me-al dente.  And the sauce was full of meat and so yummy.  Richard liked his choice also.  Since he's helped me with my spaghetti I think I can handle a scoop of ice cream.  Dessert-1 scoop of rum raisin.  The ice cream we have had while in French Polynesia has been terrific.  Much better than what we have back home.  Cost which is added to our room is 6640 XPF which includes the tip.  It's a beautiful night but we are tired.  Richard is diving tomorrow so he gets his gear ready.  We are in bed around 9:00 PM.
