Our alarm has been set for 5:00 AM but I'm up at 4:30 AM. Ugh! Breakfast is tidbits from Tim Horton's and coffee. Suitcases in the car and we're on the road by 6:30 AM. We arrived at the Quality Inn Airport where I've made a reservation to park our car for the days we will be gone. Cost $135.46. The hotel provides a free shuttle to the airport which is just across the street.
I had printed out our boarding passes the night before. Checked 2 bags-44 pounds each-whew! Delta charges $25.00 for each piece of checked luggage so cost $50.00. We are in luck as Delta is code share with Air France and they have just recently arranged to be able to check baggage all the way through to final destination. Great. We don't have to get our bags at LAX and recheck them to PPT. Yay!! We are TSA pre check so get through security fast and easy. Our flight is DL3554 departing 9:01 AM. We depart 9:10 AM. No in air service as flight is so short. We arrive Detroit pretty much on schedule-10:14 AM. As we're walking to the next gate we are asked some questions by a group of men-what's your final destination....My husband says they're Air Marshals. Detroit Airport is very nice but it's a long walk to our next gate. We get to our gate, relax for a bit, then it's time to board. This flight is DL1559 departing Detroit 12:00 PM and scheduled to arrive LAX 1:51 PM. I had booked aisle seats across from each other for Richard and myself as we have some issues with our knees/legs and need to get up and walk around. This flight is longer so each seat has its own flight screen were you can watch TV, movies....Luckily I remembered my head set. I watched Darkest Hour which was excellent. I'm a big fan of Winston Churchill. Drinks-pop/water-and choice protein bar/pretzels/cookies/almonds. Our flight was uneventful and we are at LAX. Cost of our Delta flight for 2 adults was $1319.20. I booked these tickets back in August 2017.
Unfortunately we have a 10 hour layover at this airport. We leave our arrival terminal to head over to Tom Bradley International terminal. What to do with all that time?? I suggested we could take a taxi over to Marina del Rey for a bite to eat but Richard does not want to leave the airport. As per advice from Trip Advisor FP travel forum we purchase a bottle of Bacardi rum at the duty free shop. It will be waiting for us at our departure gate. Cost $20.00
I'm feeling hungry. Wish there was an In & Out Burger here. I see PF Chang's on the upper level but Richard wants something light. Settle for Border Grill. Citrus chicken burrito and Border tostada salad. Large bottle of water to share. Cost without tip $34.46. The burrito is huge so I give part of it to Richard. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was really tasty. Much better than I expected from an airport. Close by there are performers on stilts, dragon dancers, and live music. It's for the grand opening of the PF Chang's! Too late I realize we could have had chicken lettuce wraps. Darn. But I enjoyed the food I had. Time to check mail on my computer.
Last flight Air France. LAX to PPT. Never flown on this airline before so curious as to how the comfort and service will be. I did select seats for us at the rear of the plane-duo seats where there are just the 2 instead of the 3 that are in all the other rows. Thought this would give us chance to stretch out our legs as the 2 seats occupy same amount of space as a row of 3. AF76 departs on time 11:55 PM. Our duty free bottle was waiting for us as promised and we carry it on and place in the overhead bin. All too soon we are served a snack. Orange juice, yogurt, apple sauce, roll, pie slice of cheddar cheese, and a TWIX bar. Movie-The Shape of Water. Strange. Then another meal. Choice of omelet or apple pancakes, fruit cup, yogurt, water, muffin, sliced deli meats, cheese, roll, butter, jam, drink. I selected tea and the pancakes. Richard got the omelet. Not bad but way too much food. Movie-Coco. Sweet as most Disney movies are. We arrive in PPT, Tahiti around 5:30 AM on 5/18/18. I don't think I slept much, if at all, on the flights so I am tired.
